However, for a more smoky flavour, you can place a small aluminum cup with wet hickory chips or apple wood below the grates. Alternatively, place a smoke box over the heating element.

However, the food does not have that 100% smoky flavor you will get from a charcoal grill.

It is not advisable to wash the cast iron grates in the dishwasher. The soap could damage the seasoned surface and cause rust. However, hand cleaning the grates is simple and straightforward. You simply need to soak them in the sink and then wipe clean with a sponge. Do not use harsh brushes or scouring pads on the grates.
The taste of food grilled on the Weber Q1400 Electric Grill is similar to that of foods grilled on traditional gas and charcoal grills.
What We Don’t Like

Compared to some of the best electric grills on the market, the cooking surface is quite small. With this electric grill, there is space to cook for 3 to 4 people. When grilling for more people, you may need more than one cooking ‘shift’. Therefore, if you plan to host large gatherings, you might want to look for a different electric grill
Our Verdict
If you have storage issues or your homeowner or condo association rules forbid using charcoal and propane in the house, this portable electric grill would be great for you. The unit grills food that tastes just like meat cooked the traditional way.
Overall, the Weber Q1400 Electric Grill impressed us. The appliance is easy to assemble and clean. There are a couple of areas where we wished the company did more. For example, it would have been better if the Weber 6557 Q Portable Cart was sold together with the grill. However, this is not a deal breaker.
